Your Child’s SwimStories Journey

1. Overview

Every child's journey at SwimStories follows a thoughtfully designed pathway that builds water confidence, safety, and skill through gentle, developmentally appropriate progression.

Nothing we do is random — each step is rooted in child psychology, water safety research, and years of hands-on experience with babies, toddlers, and young swimmers.

Whether your child joins us at six months or at age four, we ensure they learn the right skills at the right time, in a way that feels safe, predictable, and emotionally supportive.
Each stage prepares them for the next, creating a natural and confident transition as they grow.

2. Why Progression Matters

Swimming is a sensory–motor skill, children learn best through rhythm, routine, and repetition.

When progress is introduced gradually, they develop:

  • Strong body awareness

  • Calm, confident movement in water

  • The ability to self-regulate during new challenges

  • Life-saving independence

But when steps are rushed, skipped, or introduced too early, children can become overwhelmed or anxious. That's why all SwimStories lessons are private, one-on-one sessions based on age and readiness. Your child receives exactly the right level of challenge, never too much, never too little.

3. The SwimStories Progression Pathway

Because children join SwimStories at different ages, there are two starting points.

Pathway for infants and toddlers (under 4 years):

Floater Course → Little Swimmers Weekly → Swim–Float–Swim Course → Little Swimmers Weekly (20 min)

Pathway for older beginners (4+ years):

Survival Swim Course → Little Swimmers Weekly (20 min) → Stroke Development Program

Every child progresses at their own pace. Instructors may adjust placement to ensure emotional readiness, skill retention, and long-term confidence.

The Stages of the SwimStories Journey

Below is an easy-to-understand overview of how each stage fits into your child’s progress — without repeating the detailed course descriptions found on each course page.

Floater Course
(6 months - 3 years):
Foundation Stage: Safety, Orientation & Floating

All young swimmers begin here.

This stage teaches the most essential survival skill:
Independent floating.

Children learn breath control, body orientation, and how to roll onto their backs to rest and breathe.

Once they master floating, they have the foundation needed for rolling, swimming, and future survival sequences.

After completing this course, children move into Little Swimmers Weekly to maintain and strengthen their new skill.

Swim–Float–Swim Course
(24 Months – 3 Years):
Development Stage: Movement, Rolling & Independent Survival

Here, floating becomes functional.

Children learn to:

  • Swim forward

  • Roll onto their backs to breathe

  • Return to swimming until they reach safety

This is the complete survival sequence. Readiness is assessed individually; not all children will be ready at the same age.

After this course, children return to Little Swimmers Weekly for longer 20-minute lessons as they build stamina and stronger movement patterns.

Survival Swim Course
(4+ years):
Advanced Stage: Distance, Awareness & Strong Body Control

Children aged four and older learn to perform the survival sequence over longer distances with greater confidence and body awareness.

They practise problem-solving in the water and begin naturally transitioning into early stroke readiness.

After this course, they move into Little Swimmers Weekly (20 min) to maintain and refine their skills.
